Cancelled: Rathmines Theatre Opening Day

Update: Due to the escalating COVID-19 situation, Council has made the decision to postpone the Rathmines Theatre and Heritage Centre open day.
We know how excited the community is to see this refurbished venue reopen, so we will be offering small group tours of the Theatre and Heritage Centre on Saturday 8 August from 10am. Bookings are essential to ensure we comply with COVID-19 restrictions.

Join us for a special community event as we celebrate the reopening of Rathmines Theatre on Sunday, July 26.
The 1940s-inspired fanfare will include history, art, craft and music to celebrate the past and future of the theatre.
All activities are planned to ensure adequate social distancing and COVID safe requirements. Bookings are required to manage numbers.

On the main stage
10am: Toronto Brass Band
10.45am: Taekwondo Demonstration by Shim Jang Taekwondo
11:30am: Chin-Hwi Ang, Violinist
Chin-Hwi found her calling with music in her mid-twenties; however her foundations came from the Newcastle Conservatorium of Music. She developed her personal style through travel and from her mentors along the way. Affectionately known as the Mad Fiddler, due to the ‘many hats she wears’ as well as being versatile in crossover music styles, music is a form of communication for Chin-Hwi.
12:15pm: Toronto Brass Band
1.15pm: Speech and Drama Performance - Students of Ishbel Beadle
The performers are students of Speech & Drama who will display some of the skills they are learning at their various levels. Speech & Drama encompasses a wide range of skills which are valuable life skills teaching not only the art of performance but also the art of communication, presentation skills, public speaking & interview techniques. In the Speech & Drama segment the students will perform monologues from age appropriate plays, a duologue as well as poetry.

10am-2pm: Model Planes, build and decorate a model plane, suitable for all ages
10am-2pm: Camouflage Art, large scale participatory art installation, suitable for all ages
Come join Zack & Ella, cardboard craft masters from Fingers Crossed Creative, in building & decorating a giant sized WWII era model biplane - like a model aircraft kit but giant sized & made of cardboard & found items. Drop in anytime throughout the event & add your own personal touch to the build. You might even learn a few tips & tricks to use with these readily available materials for home craft projects!
