About Kahibah Brass
The "Transport Institute Boys Brass Band" was formed in the 1940s rehearsing at the old Bus Sheds in Hamilton until later moving to Kahibah Bowling Club from 1974. At one time Kahibah Brass band was the number one 'A Grade' Brass band in the Region.
Kahibah Brass is one of Lake Macquarie/ Newcastle's oldest surviving brass bands, the band has had a long and varied history. Gary Highfield who played trombone for The Newcastle Transport Band as a teenager and an active member of Kahibah Brass, recalls the establishment of the Transport Band somewhere in the 1940's but as far as we know, no one is sure of an establishment date.
In 2004, Colin Newham took over the reins as Musical Director, with a prestigious background as the Musical Director creating the arrangements for Marcia Hines and Tina Arena in a production called "Soul". His most well-known role was recording and touring the "ensemble of combatant psychologies, known and trading as The Reels". Colin's experience as a talented musician compliments his work across TV, advertising, writing movie scores, and theatre work. Colin has played not only with "The Reels", but also Mondo Rock, The Numbers, and numerous other Australian Bands of the 70's and 80's.
Kahibah Brass's performance "In the Round" brings passion, innovation, experimentation and creative excellence to the heart and soul of Lake Macquarie.
