Radio Girl: the story of the extraordinary Mrs Mac

“Mrs Mac” was the first women in Australia to enroll and graduate from an engineering course. She ran her own business and became the epicentre of the wireless radio community. And by the end of World War 2 she had trained more than 13,000 service men and women and established the Women’s Emergency Signalling Corps.

David Dufty

David Dufty has a PhD in psychology, and has worked as a statistician and social researcher at the University of Memphis, Newspoll, and the Australian Bureau of Statistics. His book The Secret Code Breakers of Central Bureau won the 2017 Nib Military History Prize.

When Violet McKenzie made an appearance in this code-breaking book, in a chapter titled ‘Mrs Mac and her Girls in Green’, David was astonished to find his readership were more interested in Mrs Mac than the code-breakers he’d spent five years piecing together.
