She will talk about how she came across her subject while working at the State Library of NSW and the ten-year labour of love to research and write this intriguing life story. Just as her historical research has enriched Cathy’s life, her subject Zora Cross was also sustained by an enchantment with history. Reviewing The Shelf Life of Zora Cross as ‘pick of the week’ in the Sydney Morning Herald’s Spectrum, Steven Carroll wrote: ‘This imaginatively conceived biography is an attempt to retrieve [Zora Cross] from obscurity, and the result is a fascinating read.’ Author Biography: Cathy Perkins is the author of the biography The Shelf Life of Zora Cross. She edits SL magazine and other publications at the State Library of NSW and has worked as a book editor, in a bookshop and for the Australian Society of Authors. Her essays on Zora Cross have been published in the literary journal Meanjin.
