The Finding Our Awaba exhibition features a series of twelve photographs that aim to highlight the resilient remnants of the natural world post-colonial Australia. Let this exhibition serve as a space to reflect on experiences in life where connection to the natural world offered joy and wonder to you.
Moments of intensity, tranquillity, sublimity and spirituality are captured by local Awabakal man Luke Williams.
This exhibition appeals to anyone who finds comfort in immersing themselves in the natural world.
The twelve photographs have been assembled to show the perspective of Mahrahkah, an Awabakal woman who was one of two women of childbearing age that survived colonial massacres and disease. This is Luke’s ancestor and was one of the last people to feel and observe Awaba before the continuous destruction of Country. All photos attempt to distance themselves from colonial scarring to immerse the viewer in a sacred peace that was almost faded.
Luke is inspired by Awabakal Country, and its ability to manifest community and individual well-being.
Artworks are framed fine art photographic prints.
