Textures Of Time: A Journey Through Galgabba

Byron photo 1.jpg

Byron Moffat Smith, a dedicated photographer from Lake Macquarie, Galgabba country, Australia, masterfully blends historic and avant-garde techniques in his work. His passion for film photography, darkroom practices, and alternative printing methods shines through in every piece. Byron's fascination with 3D printed pinhole cameras and cameraless photography adds a unique dimension to his art.

Byron's love for photography ignited during his extensive travels overseas, including a brief period living in Germany. His hands-on approach extends to picture framing. His creations have been exhibited at TAFE, various art galleries, and the Newcastle Art Space, where he was a finalist for the Best Hunter Emerging Artist Photography category in 2024.

With an eclectic background that includes 17 years as a bricklayer, 9 years in underground coal mining, and 2 years as a bar supervisor, Byron studies a Cert IV and Diploma in Photography at Hunter Street Art School. He epitomizes the essence of an artist, tradesman, and lifelong learner, continually challenging and expanding the horizons of his craft.

Textures Of Time: A Journey Through Galgabba will have it's official opening at SEEN@Swansea on Saturday August 10th at 11am. This is a free event, with tea and coffee available - all are welcome. Click the below link to book in:
