"Discovering Kuram" by the students of Macquarie College

Kuram Exhibition(2).jpg

Step into the world of Kuram, where history and nature intertwine, and art thrives.

During Term 3 of 2023, Stage 1 students at Macquarie College engaged deeply with Kuram - the First Nations name for Winding Creek - in Glendale and Cardiff, NSW. Exploring its past and present, they delved into the area's intriguing history and diverse ecosystem.

Venturing into the heart of Kuram, students embarked on a journey of discovery and self-expression. One special day was spent at Kuram's edge, the landscape becoming their classroom. Engaging in storytelling, traditional dances, and weaving inspired by Kuram's flora and fauna, students formed a deep connection with the land and its heritage. Equipped with binoculars, they ventured on bird-watching walks, capturing the beauty of native plants through sketches and keen observation.

Join us as we celebrate their journey — the culmination showcased in an exhibition honouring Kuram's past and present while advocating for the sustainability to ensure its future. Through their exuberant and passionate perspective, enjoy the splendour of this cherished landscape and experience its profound impact on their growing understanding of the world.

Opening Night - March 7th at Belmont Library from 5pm

Speak to the teachers and artists from Macquarie College about their journey through Kuram. A debut unique Soundscape created by the students will also be played for the audience.
