Lake Mac Inspirations

Lake Macquarie Landscape

Views of the lake continually change with weather, time of the day, and the seasons – lending rich inspiration to the observer and artist. The birdlife and other animals that inhabit the region are many and varied and also come and go with the changing of the seasons. The works selected for the exhibition reflect not only the broad range of skills of the artists but also their love for the beauty of the Lake and the life that flocks around it.

As friends, this group of 3 artists meets regularly to practice and learn new skills together and from each other. They call on a vast knowledge of many years practicing art and continue to share techniques learned through workshops and social media.

Chris Marcar uses fibres and textiles to felt and shape objects, primarily birds and other animals. In the past she experimented with painting but preferred creating 3D objects and exploring ways of including her love of felting to create her sculptures. She has exhibited locally and belongs to the local U3A Fibre and Textile group, where she both learns from other textile artists and leads classes for the group.

Helen McLeod is a watercolour, acrylic and oil painter and has been a practicing artist for over 30 years. She continues to attend art classes and loves teaching and painting with friends and fellow artists. She exhibits locally and has participated in the Lake Mac Open Studios Program in the past.

Shiona Hornsby has been a practicing artist for 12 years, and likes to work with all painting media. She is continually learning new techniques and enjoys meeting up weekly with fellow artists. She has exhibited locally and participates in the Open Studios displaying her work at Helen’s studio.
